versatile Panasonic BGH1 – designed for high-quality shooting in various productions
IMAGES BGH1 can be adapted for each shoot, adding on a battery, screen and audio as you see fit
By using an upgraded version of the incredible sensor from the Panasonic Lumix GH5S inside a small yet rugged boxcam body that can be rigged up for lots of different uses, the new BGH1 takes Micro Four Thirds (MFT) technology on to a whole new level for professional productions. Capable of shooting in stunning quality 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra in C4K at up to 60p in V-Log L using a Dual Native ISO sensor like the professional Varicams, the BGH1 is a versatile and easy-to-use expandable camera that is ideal for multicamera, VR, drone, IP remote control and live-streaming. And, of course, it can be rigged up for documentary or live event shooting, or even as a cinema camera thanks to a huge range of MFT- fit lenses on the market. Available at just £1899.99 frommid-November, it brings
The key to the camera’s incredible low-light capability is the Dual Native ISO technology, which uses two circuits to create two separate native ISO settings. Where in a normal sensor, noise increases as sensitivity rises, the Dual Native ISOminimises noise by choosing an optimal circuit to use according to the sensitivity before gain processing. As a result, the BGH1 is capable of recording very clean files up to a maximum ISO of 51,200. The camera records video with a gamma curve compatible with ITU-R BT.2100, and you can now choose Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) for fast HDR workflow. A low bit rate recording mode in C4K/4K of HEVC/H.265 for HLG is also available. The V-Log L setting helps create footage of up to a staggering 13 stops of dynamic range and is pre-installed. The camera is also capable of C4K/4K 4:2:2 10-bit output via HDMI or C4K/4K 4:2:0 10-bit when recorded to internal memory cards. And variable frame rate (VFR) gives overcranked or undercranked video in C4K/4K at 60fps, and in Full HD of 240fps for a maximum 10x slow motion in 24p. The minimum frame rate for quick motion video is 2fps for creative special effects. The BGH1 also supports anamorphic shooting in 4K up to 50p, with 1.3x, 1.33x, 1.5x. 1.9x or 2x settings.
professional-level video quality with high sensitivity and wide dynamic range to so many and varied projects. A major benefit of the Lumix BGH1 is that is can be customised to suit each individual shoot. You can add on a battery, follow focus rig, screen and audio to make it into a fine documentary camera, or use the advanced AF functions including subject tracking plus Face and Eye Detection for humans and animals. Alternatively, use it as a remote camera as part of a multicam live event for streaming. As a crash camera or for use in or on a car, it’s an ideal solution without compromising image quality. Or mount it remotely in a place that would be impossible to access during a shoot, such as at a sporting event or ceremony. With SDI, HDMI and USB-C connections, as well as 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth 4.2, it connects to a huge range of devices. The new Lumix BGH1 uses the 10.2-megapixel Live MOS sensor with Dual Native ISO technology, as used in the hugely popular and capable Lumix GH5S. But the BGH1 takes its performance even further, with an increase in dynamic range from 12 to 13 stops and internal 10-bit 4:2:0 recording in C4K/ 60p.
