CAMBRIDGE 105’S BREAKFAST PRESENTERS JULIAN CLOVER AND LUCY MILAZZO LOOK FORWARD TO THE YEAR AHEAD WELCOME 2020 RADIO GAGA

included Sophie Frear, Gabby, Sages of the Subway, Amethysts and From The Sticks. The young artists in particular enjoy taking part – we’re often giving them their first taste of radio, and don’t let it be said they’re not listening to the radio. True, they’re more likely to be catching up with a podcast or streaming via the Radioplayer app than using an old-fashioned transistor. (We’re not exactly sure that radios even have transistors in them these days anyway). The Cambridge Jazz Festival was another highlight, as was the final of the Cambridge Band Competition, not to mention our stage at the Mill Road Winter Fair and a special day at The Grafton. We’ll be back at many more events, large and small, during 2020; let us know if you’re running an event by emailing hello@cambridge105.co.uk Cambridge Breakfast returns to Cambridge 105 Radio on Monday 6 January – listen on FM, Digital Radio and that smart speaker you got for Christmas.

In 2019, Cambridge 105 Radio broadcast live across the four days of the Festival, taking in live music from The Den and some exclusive performances next to our outside broadcast van. It’s the unusual that you remember, such as Lucy’s lesson in the ukulele from Elizabeth & Jameson, or the performance by The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican. They recorded a jingle for us that can still be heard on the station. We’re looking forward to making a return to the Folk Festival during 2020. In June, it’s Strawberry Fair (6 June), another long runner, going back to 1974. No one is exactly sure how many times Strawberry Fair has actually been staged. It missed a few during the 2010s due to police concerns, but came back as a more family-orientated event. In the early years, legend has it that two were held within a single calendar year. Like so many of our outside broadcasts, Strawberry Fair is a showcase of live music. This year the line-up

020 is a special year for Cambridge 105 Radio. In July we’ll celebrate

our tenth anniversary on the air. We’re also adding a new transmitter for Cambourne. In the early days we only broadcast for a few hours a day, rather than the 18 hours of programming that’s now heard: or 24 if you include Non Stop 105 that keeps you company overnight. Neither of us were at the station at the start – Julian joined in 2012 and Lucy in 2017 – but you can be sure we’ll be celebrating with our colleagues. We’ll tell you more about our plans nearer the time. But being Cambridge, there’s much more to look forward to throughout the year ahead. Many of the events we cover have been held for many years, such as the Cambridge Folk Festival, first held in 1965 and returning to Cherry Hinton Hall between 30 July and 2 August, 2020. Keen observers of the fiddle-playing straw fox will note the festival is slightly earlier again this year.
