SPOTLIGHT ON

ST ANDREW’S STREET

St Andrew’s Street is one of the most recognisable streets in Cambridge. Home to some big retails names, it’s an integral part of the city’s bustling centre, and has plenty to offer visitors and locals alike. When it comes to stopping for a bite to eat, you’ll be spoilt for choice: the street is packed with eateries to cater to all tastes. You can pay a visit to crowd-pleasing chains like Wagamama and Nando’s, and of course there’s The Regal, a Wetherspoons pub housed in an art-deco cinema building, whose site previously played host to well-known local landmark The Old Castle Hotel. For a taste of Italy, meanwhile, pop into Cafe Milano, where you can be sure of

grabbing a tasty slice of pizza or creamy hot chocolate. Those looking for a taste of Cambridge should head to the city’s oldest restaurant, Varsity, which offers a fresh take on a traditional bistro menu. Or how about Livingstone’s Café? Nestled in St Andrew’s Street’s historic Baptist Church, this family-friendly cafe is the perfect pit stop after a day of shopping. Speaking of shopping, you’ll find there’s no shortage of places to indulge in some retail therapy. St Andrew’s Street is where you’ll find the main entrance to the Grand Arcade, which offers three sky-lit floors of premium stores including John Lewis, Topshop

and Apple, as well as eateries such as Ed’s Easy Diner. Outside, find independent chocolatier Chocolat Chocolat, voted Cambridge’s favourite chocolate shop, while fashionistas can head to Zara and H&M. There’s also fine fragrances at perfumier Penhaligon’s, plus quality shoes for men, women and children at Jones Bootmaker. And not forgetting the street’s historic attractions! For the architecturally inclined, there’s both the St Andrew the Great Church and the Baptist Church to explore. St Andrew’s Street is also home to Christ’s College and Emmanuel College, so a relaxing stroll through one of Cambridge’s picturesque college grounds is only ever a few steps away.
