WORDS BY GAVIN STOKER

WE NEVER STOP learning, runs the old adage, while conventional wisdom suggests picking up new skills keeps us young and the mind active. Whatever level we’re at with our photography, interacting with others who have similar interests also provides an enjoyable social experience. Couple this with a trip to somewhere we’ve never been before and a subject that’s perhaps new to us, and we’re getting the grey matter firing, as well as creating memories and imagery that will last a lifetime. Furthermore, the start of a new year is a perfect time to try something different. After all, if we always do the same thing, we’ll always get the same results. Luckily, then, our buyers’ guide to courses and holidays has done some of the hard work for you, in singling out photographic opportunities worth exploring further.

If you’ve always fancied letting your photography take a walk on the wild side, then the courses run by wildlife photographer Tracey Lund, which promise ‘photography without limits’ and visits to global destinations, will appeal. Whether it’s your first tour or you’re already a seasoned pro, Lund guarantees an immersive photography expedition, with the opportunity of grabbing the once-in-a-lifetime images we all dream about. From short breaks to ten-day expeditions, a visit to the Wild Aperture website will reveal something to match your own interests and availability, with upcoming spring tours taking in habitats as diverse as Scotland and Costa Rica. Perhaps you fancy an opportunity to photograph predators in Finland this autumn, Slovenian brown bears in May or the Iberian lynx this August, for which limited spaces are still available at the time of writing. Can’t decide? Treat yourself to a voucher that can be redeemed against any of Lund’s UK workshops and photography trips.

Chris Simmons Photography Workshops › c-simmonsphotography.com

The best training provider in the Photography News Awards for two years running, Simmons puts a lot of personal passion into his workshops. At the time of writing the photographer is poised to launch his new Cornish seascape holidays at March’s Photography & Video Show. In anticipation, he has been building a new studio and guest lodge to accommodate visitors since late last year.

This exciting new venture is in addition to new colour management, post-processing and printing and framing courses to his existing Cornish seascape photography workshops for 2024, a business that’s already been up and running for over a decade. Simmons’ award-winning courses explore the beauty of the south-west coastline and landscape, and are open to photographers of all experience levels.
