Honouring the vision of Ripon’s Iain Cairns This stunning abstract image is typical of the inspirational and unique work of long-standing Ripon City Photographic Society member Iain Cairns, who passed away recently. He had an eye for detail, a deep understanding of composition and an enthusiasm that encouraged others to experiment and grow in their own image making. His portfolio ranged from striking landscapes to intimate everyday moments, often shared with club members to spark discussion and learning. In later years, he even embraced smartphone photography, proving that it was the image – not the equipment – that truly mattered. His comments and humour became a highlight of meetings and online exchanges, and his images remain a lasting legacy for the club.
