“We had a bunch of jobs come in even before we launched, which we didn’t expect to happen,” he says. AfterLive worked with the Heavy Music Awards, streaming the show’s live performances on Twitch. “We like to make you feel like you’re in the room with the band,” says head of marketing, Tegan Desporte. “We’re trying to build a production service,” says Bonner. “We’re still learning lots each day. Often the best way to learn about things is to make mistakes and then see how you can rectify them.”
The company is also looking at other opportunities to make its content richer for audiences. “We’ve talked about immersive audio and multicamera viewing, as well as virtual reality (VR). It’s a huge area and it’s not something we have technical expertise in, but from these humble beginnings, we’re thinking about what we can do to become a market leader,” says Bonner. “It’s been a rubbish year, but I’ve felt more positive and more invigorated about this than I have for anything in a long time.”
