O ne of Europe’s key trade fairs for production and media pros is back for its fifth edition, but this time with a Hungarian twist. Previously based in Munich, the event will now take place from 8 to 9 May at Hungexpo, Budapest. If you’re considering getting yourself to the city of spas to soak up the latest production trends and technology – here’s a taster of what to expect! The 2026 edition is lining up to be a great show, with a bustling expo and curated programme of bold short films, documentaries and creative works from invited guests and emerging talent across Europe. Selected screenings will feature Q&As with filmmakers, highlighting new voices, diverse perspectives and original storytelling. Attendees can also expect panels and workshops, an industry-focused expo, ample networking opportunities and the Euro Cine Awards, which recognise trailblazers and career achievement. With central and eastern Europe taking centre stage, Hungary isn’t just hosting – it’s making a strong case for itself. The National Film Institute of Hungary will pull back the curtain on NFI Studios and Filmlab, with insights from Tamás Kovács and Viktória Sovák. Expect a closer look at what makes the country an increasingly attractive destination for productions. There’s also a strong focus on sustainability, with sessions on green

The Made in Hungary – Filming in the Heart of Europe session, led by Csaba Káel, promises a compelling overview of why more productions are heading east. New for 2026 is a mini summit on AI, with industry professionals including independent workflow consultant Miga Bär, FilmLight’s image engineer Daniele Siragusano, Storyline’s senior colourist Christian Wieberg-Nielsen, DOPs Roberto Schaefer, David Stump and Kommer Kleijn, with moderator Henning Rädlein. Tim Kang, Aputure’s principal imaging engineer, is returning to the show and will be shining a light on colour science and lighting fixtures. Euro Cine Expo will also feature an event hosted by Women in Cinematography and will conclude with a session from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, with ACES moderator Henning Rädlein, who will be joined by panellists including Steve Tobenkin and Christian Wieberg-Nielsen. Headlining the showcase is the new NOVA II range, featuring Aputure’s advanced BLAIR-CG light engine. The line-up comprises the flagship NOVA II 2x1, NOVA II 1x1 and the NOVA II 9°.
