EDITOR’S LETTER PETE TOWNSHEND

Let’s be honest, I’m writing this at the end of a UK summer that left a lot to be desired weather-wise. But what it lacked in sunshine, it sure made up for in sporting action. We were in the midst of Euro 2024 when I was last addressing you, looking forward to England’s quarter-final clash with Switzerland although blissfully unaware of the rollercoaster ahead! At the same time, we were watching legends of world tennis battling it out at Wimbledon, before the beginning of sport’s greatest spectacle – the Olympics and Paralympics. And what a spectacle it was! Aside from the mindblowing talents of all these sportsmen and sportswomen, something I found truly fascinating was the coverage: the way the incredibly compelling imagery plucked us all from our everyday lives around the globe and plunged us directly into the heart of the action. It was tremendous! This is in no small part down to the advancement of technology, which is constantly putting ever more powerful tools into the hands of the talented image makers that capture such awesome visuals. Indeed, this summer also saw

experience. Oh, and you could also win a host of fantastic prizes, such as Nikon Z f, Sony A6700 and Canon EOS R100 kits – plus much more. Visit the TIPA website to take part before 30 September 2024 and you’ll not only help shape the publications you love, but be in with a chance of getting an extra Christmas present. tipa.com

IN A WORLD of AI-fuelled disinformation and unregulated online content, it has never been more important to have access to news resources you can trust to bring you impartial opinions, reviews and information. That’s why Photography News is proud to be a member of the Technical Image Press Association – otherwise known as TIPA.

This coming together of the world’s leading publications in the imaging field was formed to ensure you, the consumer, are getting what you want. To do so, we need to know what that is, which is why the Reader Survey is so important. By taking a few minutes to fill out an online questionnaire, you’ll be helping us understand how to give you the best possible reading

Mark II and the long-awaited EOS R1. Recognising all this hard work is something we feel strongly about, so we’re proud to say that voting is now open for the PN 2024 Awards! Turn to page 21 to see the nominations in all categories and find out how to vote. Elsewhere in this issue, you can find more recognition of great talent as we reveal the winners of PNPOTY 2024 and, of course, it wouldn’t be PN without some of our signature gear tests. This issue sees the aforementioned Z 6III put through its paces. Next time I write, we’ll all be gearing up for Christmas in every sense of the phrase – where has the year gone? Until then, enjoy those vivid autumn colours.
