more than ever, students need support, guidance and excellent employability skills as they take their next steps – perhaps into jobs that don’t even exist yet. Along with a continued commitment to achieving top grades, at MPW there’s a focus on the heralded four Cs of 21st-century learning: critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. These, believe the college, are skills that will carry students forward into the world, facilitating their success and equipping them for life after college. The college has added its own, fifth, C: caring. “By that, I mean caring in its most obvious sense, but also that things matter. Having principles: views that won’t waver because we believe them to be right. We are prepared to be outnumbered in standing up for those,” says Tom. “More and more, in a world of ever-clouded ethics and nefarious world leaders, as young people, they need to care.” At St Mary’s, there’s a similarly impassioned commitment to shaping the next generation of resilient, empowered individuals who are able to make the most of their unique talents. This begins with arming them with excellent results (in the last academic year, the school’s sixth formers achieved an amazing 35% A* and 81% A*-A at A-level), and continues with membership of the alumnae community when they leave, opening the door to many opportunities. “Ultimately, our students leave us ready for the future,” concludes Robin. “They are fully equipped with the skills, qualities and values needed for fulfilment and success.”
