SAVOUR & S I P

TOP PUB

The Prince Regent reopens Regent Street stalwart The Prince Regent has just undergone a full revamp, and is reopening to welcome back guests once more. The six-figure refurbishment has transformed the pub with a warm, cosy colour palette of reds and creams complementing the modernised bar, fresh new furniture and expanded menu. The spacious beer garden out back features heated seating areas alongside a bright conservatory, maximising the space – as well as staving off the cold as we move from autumn into winter. Additions to the food menu include two new burger choices – one of which is a plant-based option from Beyond Meat, adding to the vegan options available at the pub. The staple Sunday roast has also enjoyed a level-up, and will now feature rich cauliflower cheese alongside seasoned greens and carrots, all served with glorious beef dripping gravy. There’s a whole hand-picked drinks range to look forward to, which includes fine English wines, beer from Harston-based brewery BrewBoard, socially responsible soft drinks from LemonAid and Belu Water, plus a brand-new house ale: Prince’s Pale Ale. Given the pub’s location, it’s an ideal stop-off if you’re out and about in town – whether you’re looking for a shopping pit stop, or just want to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Only a stone’s throw from Parker’s Piece, it’s a perfect place to catch up with friends and family. Matt Holland, general manager at The Prince Regent, says: “The Prince Regent has always been a popular pub with a brilliant atmosphere, and we can’t wait to show our regulars and new customers alike the stunning refurb – and welcome them back in for a much-needed pint!”

LOCAL PRODUCERSWIN BIG AT GREAT TASTE AWARDS! Once again, our region has provided rich pickings for the judges of the Great Taste Awards, with East Anglian producers winning 268 accolades from a total of 5,383 winners from across the globe. The esteemed awards value taste above all other factors, with the judges focusing solely on a product’s texture, appearance, composition and flavour – and not factors such as branding or packaging. The panel is made up of food experts like chefs, restaurateurs, retail buyers and writers, who go through a rigorous blind taste testing, which this year saw them sample more than 14,000 entries from 108 countries. Flying the flag for Cambridgeshire were local favourites including Linden Leaf Botanicals, which scooped Great Taste Awards for its Cocktail Elements spray garnish range, as well as OliveOlive, which picked up a gong for its extra virgin olive oil. The Gog’s scotch eggs were recognised, too, as were The Baking Jin’s gluten-free orange chiffon cake and Orriss & Son’s Even Flow hot chilli sauce.
