Craft category at the Education Business Awards; and our Photography Department being victorious in the Ilford Photo Student Photography Competition four years running. All major sports are offered, along with an impressive array of other activities, helping every pupil realise their sporting potential. Rowing, athletics, golf, cricket, hockey, tennis, rugby, netball, equestrian and football – the choices are endless. The working week, which no longer includes formal lessons on Saturdays, also enables pupils to participate fully in regional and national events. Our 1st XV boys’ rugby team recently enjoyed an unbeaten season, while students are regularly called up to county and national level, plus we have had success at the British Rowing Senior Championships and National Equestrian Championships. As one of the major sports available to students from Year 8 onwards, rowing is enormously popular at King’s Ely. Our Boat Club is located just a short walk from school, providing an uninterrupted stretch of water that runs for over 15 miles in each direction, including a 5km straight, making it the perfect place to train.

Boarders – including the Ely Cathedral boy and girl choristers – live in picturesque boarding houses, led by caring Housemasters and Housemistresses. Our 14th-century Monastic Barn provides the perfect place for breakfast, lunch and tea, and a strong pastoral structure where childhood is respected and cherished. King’s Ely is a family – a nurturing, inclusive community. We can take each child on a seamless journey, from one section to the next, whilst welcoming newcomers at key transition stages, adapting the offering to the needs of every child in our care. Only by visiting King’s Ely can you feel the energy and warmth of our community.

From the high peaks of the Himalayas, to the gushing torrents of the rivers in the Alps, our unique Ely Scheme programme also offers boundless opportunities for pupils to learn through outdoor education. We give students the chance to undertake their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at all three levels. King’s Ely boasts some of the region’s most historic buildings, yet teaching facilities are modern and purpose-built. Our close links with Ely Cathedral – one of the finest in the world – make the perfect setting for concerts and performances, a daily extension to the school’s workspace, the school chapel, and a place of outstanding beauty and spirituality.
