also able to offer work experience (another must-have at senior school level), so much the better. If these visits are not enough to ignite a spark, schools in our area have many other aces up their institutional sleeves, from TED talks to podcasts, from careers fairs to poetry competitions (many of which are pupil-organised), all packed with advice, information and inspiration.
For some pupils, a particular speaker will strike an immediate chord and then set them on a course they had never imagined taking. For others, that eureka moment may be a long way in the future. At least by shining a light on what their futures could look like, schools are helping pupils visualise the different paths that could be theirs for the taking, one day.
