a simple set of credentials and gain immediate access to extra burst capacity at a speed comparable to what they are already experiencing on the workstation- based platform. The service is being offered as a low-cost multi-tenant environment, or customers can deploy the AmberFin container inside their own VPC (virtual private cloud) infrastructure. “Having that option to deploy in your own cloud gives our more security-conscious customers the peace of mind to have everything within their own infrastructure, which is already under audit control. It makes for a much simpler process,” explains Carson. The multi-tenant service can offer geographical flexibility, with the transcode container being cloned into the bucket closest to the request. “We know customers come to AmberFin because of the quality and complexity of what they’re trying to do,” Carson continues. “It doesn’t make sense for someone to use AmberFin to do simple proxy conversions, since it’s overkill for that kind of job, and there are other cloud tools that work well for that. But those simpler transcode services can’t handle problems like having to do a standards conversion, in addition to a mezzanine conversion and putting a file

package together at the end. AmberFin excels at that sort of complexity.” Though the AmberFin Cloud Transcoder Service officially launched at the end of August, a number of companies have been running it through its paces. One major content owner has been using the service to build out distribution packages with complex format requirements. Another company with a similar use case is also using the service to mark ad insertion points for its AVOD offering. Another is using the service’s burst capacity for localisation output. Carson also notes that the halt in production this year has meant that there is now a backlog of material that is going to need to be processed and distributed to a growing number of platforms. It makes sense to get that content out as quickly as possible with extra support from the cloud. “Some companies are now coming to the end of the lifespan of their on-premises transcoder capacity. Instead of turning that older farm back on to meet the new demands, they are going straight to a cloud transcoder. It’s easy for them to do the
