Aimed at a contrasting end of the market is the Sumolight Sumosky, a massive light source used for virtual production. It’s also nominated in the lighting innovation category as it opens up new opportunities for this emerging sector. Also in the lighting innovation class, the Aputure Infinibar is a modular system of flat, thin LED panels that join together to form geometric patterns. Astera’s Leo Fresnel is made for dramatic looks, while Aputure MCs are pocket-size, app-controlled LEDs. Buying into the right lights is such an important decision for serious creatives who want to up their production values. And more often than not, that means an LED. From daylight, bicolour and RGB to RGBLAC, many are controlled by an app or DMX to make things easier. COB hard lights are the first port of call for those who demand power and the ability to modify the source. And the Aputure Electro Storm XT26 and Electro Storm CS15 take power to new heights. The CS15 provides full-colour output, too. At a much more affordable price, sister brand Amaran offers the 150c COB light that also produces full colour. Nanlite’s new FC-500B and Evoke 900C are powerful and tremendous value, while the Zhiyun Molus G200 has a particularly unique design and pumps out the equivalent of 300W of light.
