and entertaining outdoors has really taken off in the past year – and we expect this trend to only increase. “An outdoor kitchen gives ample opportunity to cook and eat outdoors, whatever the season. They now come in a multitude of sizes and forms, so you have more reason to get out there and make the most of your outdoor space – whether you have a large garden or a smaller patio.” Colour is also an easy way to pull the whole space together regardless of the garden’s size. Paint manufacturer Mylands has recently launched a new collection of colours. This is in collaboration with leading British landscape gardener Jinny Blom’s own experience of the outdoors, her special bond with nature and unique talent to landscape gardens with a natural feel. Finally, Patrick O’Donnell – who is the international brand ambassador at Farrow & Ball – suggests adding a pop of colour gives an immediate effect. “Dark colours, such as scotch blue, always work well on walls and act as a gorgeous backdrop to planting,” he explains. “To bring in an element of fun for that summer alfresco drink, add a splash of vibrant colour to the seating area. If you have a tired wooden bench, enliven it with a coat of exterior eggshell in a sunshine colour such as Dutch orange. Sprinkle the space with fairy lights, pour yourself a negroni and enjoy!”
