Ahead of IBC, arkona technologies’ Erling Hedkvist shares cutting-edge upgrades to its EASY-IP platform SMALLER, SMARTER, SIMPLER

standards and IT-centric monitoring tools in order to bridge the gap between older broadcast formats and modern workflows. “When we began this, we provided these control panels – ways to control this system that looked like traditional systems,” explains Hedkvist. “Now, we’ve added more ways of doing this that can integrate into older control systems too.” The new JXS16 app for BLADE//runner AT300 expands on the previous JPEG-XS app’s capabilities. JXS16 delivers 16 channels of JPEG-XS encoding or decoding in a variety of configurations, including 16x encode, 16x decode or 8x encode + 8x decode. “The beauty, for our customers, is that it was possible to achieve this without changing the actual hardware,” adds Hedkvist. “The use case for this is a major sporting event next year, which has huge demands for JPEG-XS. Initially the thought was for everything to be centralised from Dallas, connecting all these venues in North America, which would require thousands of JPEG-XS codecs. The request was to make this higher density, and so we started building this a year ago based on that request.” The ultimate goal for arkona is to help simplify the transition from traditional SDI infrastructures to more future-proof IP solutions. These additions promise to make systems. “We believe IP has had an undeservedly bad reputation, and we introduced the EASY-IP platform to try to set the record straight,” concludes Hedkvist. this transition seamless, cost- effective and ready for future

L ast year, at IBC, arkona including audio routing, multiviewing and processing. Combining BLADE// runner with manifold CLOUD, EASY- IP offers a comprehensive, flexible platform, providing a simple, but future-proof drop-in replacement for broadcasters wanting to upgrade their existing SDI infrastructure. As IBC draws ever closer, arkona has expanded its EASY-IP offering, with the addition of new hard panel control surfaces that provide users with direct control of routing and processing. These panels are unveiled its EASY-IP platform. The solution was designed to simplify the transition to IP infrastructure for video, available as an integrated offering with any EASY-IP solution. Further to this, arkona has recently introduced its JXS16 app with the highest density of UHD JPEG-XS codecs on the market. During the process of building the IP solution, the team at arkona learned that IP has both its benefits

and drawbacks. “The problem was that the drawbacks were quite widely publicised compared to the benefits,” says Erling Hedkvist, broadcast technology sales and business development. “Ultimately, we thought this was a bit unfair. IP has got a bit of a bad rep as being difficult and expensive. But you just need to start from scratch and rethink it, so you don’t build in the same archaic way. EASY-IP is obviously the slogan, but it’s really the effort we put into the IP solution that puts its best foot forward.” The goal is to showcase a product that proves to customers that this can be as easy or as simple as an SDI solution. “That required some changes in the operational management side of these systems, which was a bit clunky, and so we wanted to improve that to make it easier. That was the driving force behind EASY-IP.” More integration has been added into legacy systems, which has involved leveraging IP-based
