GEAR GROUP WIRELESS SYSTEMS

VISLINK ULTRALITE 4K

SWIT CW-H 150 The new SWIT CW-H150 wireless system is based on WHDI wireless technology, operating on 5.1-5.9GHz licence-free bands. The chipset is licensed from Amimon which has also recently licensed its technology to ARRI for the company’s new wireless version of the ALEXA. ARRI did however ruggedise the product further. The SWIT CW-H150 is under £1000 which makes it a bit of a bargain. Definition had a shoot outdoors in a forest setting and decided that this would make for a challenging test as the shoot would include some fast running camera moves through the trees. These systems are great for keeping things tidy on set, eradicating trip hazards and the great ability to run multiple cameras off them. With the SWIT unit the use of HDMI from the camera is clever as it will open up the prosumer market for people who have always wanted this type of wireless operation but who may have a DSLR-based camera package. The wireless systems are an incredible tool to have on set especially if you have clients and directors moving around. This SWIT unit, with the HDMI feature, is interchangeable with a lot of camera systems: a great idea.

TERADEK BOLT XT Teradek has completely reimagined its line of zero delay wireless video products, with the high-end XT line and the more affordable LT line. The new designs focus on form and function, greatly improving mounting options, usability, wireless performance and camera connectivity. Both the lines are 100% backward compatible with the existing Bolt 500, 1000, 3000, Sidekick II and 703 Bolt and now available for purchase. The Bolt XT provides Teradek’s top of the line wireless performance with powerful software utilities and evolved hardware design. The Bolt XT is available in 500, 1000 and 3000 foot (152, 305 and 914m) models. There is also compatibility with new Bolt 10K receiver but the 3000 XT transmitter is required. However, there is full compatibility with the current generation: Bolt 500, 1000, 3000, Sidekick II, Bolt LT, and 703 Bolt. Features include 3G-SDI and HDMI inputs on the TX, with looping 3G-SDI output. There is built-in cross conversion from TX to RX and it includes Teradek’s proprietary software utilities.

When you hear that a camera wireless system can achieve 4K, you wonder about the quality. That’s a lot of data flying through the air, but Definition supposes if anyone is going to do it, it’s Vislink. The UltraLite 4K uses HEVC encoding to achieve 4K UHD wireless live video – a claimed world’s first. The UltraLite is a lightweight module that can be attached to any existing wireless camera system enabling live transmission of UHD. Vislink mentions cameras like Sony’s F55. Vislink also makes the HEROCast, which is a specially made transmitter for the GoPro Hero cameras. It’s small enough to be worn or mounted in unusual and formerly inaccessible locations so great for the GoPro crowd whose mantra is to always find new angles for online audiences watching their favourite live sports and events. The HEROCast comes in two forms: HEROCast connects with a HERO camera by means of secured HDMI cable and offers maximum customisable mounting options; HEROCast BacPac mounts directly to the back of the HERO camera, allowing the standard GoPro housings and mounting accessories to be used as well.
