Staying true to his roots, Luke is currently busy with over 1000 panettone arriving ahead of the festive season. “We get them specially made for us in Italy,” he explains. “There are two flavours available – pistachio and limoncello cream. to the olives, pesto and olive oil. That’s part of the charm,” says Luke Taylor, Steve’s stepson- in-law and the new director of Limoncello. “We mix things up and change the menu every few months. For autumn, we’ve moved into heartier dishes – ragus, lasagnes, pumpkin tortelloni – big dishes you wouldn’t eat in the summer.” In anticipation of the colder months, plans are in place to refurbish Limoncello’s outdoor seating area, replacing the current gazebo with a waterproof, timber frame that can be heated. Luke also intends to decorate the space with ancient olive trees and Mediterranean planting, including lavenders and herbs to scent the air.

Mill Road’s Limoncello, much like the drink, is easily spotted from a distance thanks to its inviting yellow glow. Inside, you’re met by shelves stacked high with Pan Ducale biscotti, Kimbo coffee, packets of Granoro pasta and a whole collage of other Italian fare. Limoncello was born from a love of Italian produce: specifically former owner Steve Turvill’s passion for panettone. A whole 25 years on, Limoncello has developed strong links to Italian suppliers and evolved its offering to encompass a bustling restaurant alongside the delightful deli. “We serve people what we have in the deli on our menu, from the sliced meats and cheeses
