cine lens. It’s also decently parfocal, maintaining focus even when zooming, and the focus breathing control is very good. That’s a huge benefit for filmmaking. This is only one lens, but can do so many things, thanks to unrivalled focal length range and maximum aperture. The would usually make it such a compromised lens that it suffers in other areas, but the Tamron doesn’t. It’s a great performer optically, with incredibly good autofocus, is parfocal and has little focus breathing. An enormous, heavy body is the price you pay for so much glass in such a solidly built framework. No surprise that the Tamron has sold out at so many retailers. Like the 28-75mm Tamron, the lens has a USB-C connector port that enables your computer’s free Tamron Lens Utility software to customise functions and update firmware. If you have an Android smartphone, you can use it on that, too. The lens has a switch, allowing a choice between three custom operations – and these are appointed in the software. For example, apply the lens’ focus set button to be an AF/MF switch or focus hold, taking info from the camera settings. Set the speed, ring direction and how linear it is, plus the rotation angle. Select two focus points – called A-B – with the focus hold button. By pushing the focus set button, the lens racks focus between the two points for smooth focus pulls. As standard, the Tamron has a very linear feel for manual focusing and a long throw, but no hard stops like a
