USED FOCUS – CANON C200
CMOS autofocus system, which is a bonus in many shooting situations. The ‘one shot’ AF mode works if you really want to focus manually, but a push of the button means the camera will focus in on whatever the AF frame is pointing at. The ‘AF boosted MF’ is also good for manual focusing, as you get the focus as close as you can manually, then the AF takes over and really nails it. In continuous mode, the camera will track moving subjects incredibly well. And there are two face-tracking modes which do a great job. If there are multiple faces, you select the one you want to focus on by using the
mini joystick on the side of the LCD screen, or the LCD touchscreen. If you are used to Canon’s menus and operating system, you’ll feel right at home. The C200 is very light, especially with the bolt-on top handle, grip and LCD screen removed. Even with all that kit on, it’s easy to use handheld, especially thanks to the good viewfinder. But for shoulder- mount use, it needs a rig. On the C200, that puts the camera’s heat exhaust right next to your face, which is a bit uncomfortable. or tablet, and lets you see the live view from the camera, as well as changing settings remotely. Even though it’s a bit old, the C200 still feels thoroughly modern. It’s compact and certainly priced right, with stunning autofocus. Its 8-bit internal codec is nothing special, but the C200 delivers decent non-Raw footage with clean, detailed and noise-free excellence – even when light levels fall. All with those famous Canon colours.
