August 2023 The much-loved Jesus Green Lido turns 100 years old on 30 August! This 100-yard-long pool holds an astonishing 2.4 million litres of cold water and takes five days to fill up. Originally designed to mimic the experience of swimming in the Cam, its central site was chosen for proximity to several schools and is still enjoyed by swimmers of all ages.
May 2021 The ‘Cambridge Eye’ makes its first appearance on Parker’s Piece – originally designed as a post-lockdown tourist attraction, it’s been spinning at intermittent intervals ever since.
April 2021 The Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race is held in Ely instead of London. This is the second time the famous rowing race has relocated to the Fens, the first being in 1944 due to the Second World War.
