Newmarket’s racing season is already well underway, but there’s plenty to come in the months ahead. Friday sees the fillies on track strut their stuff in the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes. Rounding things off on the Saturday is Newmarket’s summer highlight, the July Cup, which has a prize pot of £600,000
The next date for your diary is the Spring Meeting, 18-20 May, which culminates in Suffolk Day: a celebration of the county that the Rowley Mile calls home. Expect activities for all ages, including the chance to meet a Suffolk Punch horse and sit in a working Spitfire from IWM Duxford. After that, it’s over to the July Course for the Summer Celebration on 24 June. With a new champagne bar and terrace, plus the Summer House restaurant’s fine- dining fare, it’s a chance to indulge while you soak up the action on the track. The popular Newmarket Nights series returns on 30 June, offering a day’s racing followed by an open-air concert, this time featuring the best-selling Bastille. Following that, it’s the turn of one of the most anticipated events in the racecourse’s calendar: the July Festival, running from 13 to 15 of the month. Serving up three days of the world’s best horse racing – as well as fabulous fashion to ogle – it’s not to be missed. Ladies Day kicks things off on the Thursday, while Festival
and a record of attracting horses from as far afield as Japan and Australia. Can Frankie Dettori take the trophy for the first time in his final year as a jockey? Find out on 15 July! After the July Festival, there’s a variety of musical fun to enjoy, with Craig David on 21 July, Haçienda Classical on 28 July, McFly on 11 August and Olly Murs on 18 August, all taking to the Newmarket Nights stage to entertain the crowds as dusk falls. For family entertainment, check out the Sports Day on Saturday 22 July, which will feature activities and displays from local sports teams, and Dinosaur Day on 12 August, where you’ll see the unique sight of prehistoric creatures roaming the course. Once August is over, the action returns to the Rowley Mile for four weeks of top- class racing. The fixtures come thick and fast with five Group 1 (the most elite level of the sport) races across three weeks, including the Cambridgeshire Meeting (28-30 September), Sun Chariot Day
(7 October), and the Dubai Future Champions Festival (13 and 14 October), which hosts the bet365 Fillies’ Mile and the Darley Dewhurst Stakes – previously won by some of the greatest racehorses ever, including the mighty Frankel.
