And, most importantly, if the Warner Bros. or Disney or even the Criterion Collection, go out of business, the customer’s ability to watch any of those movies will be unaffected. It’s not likely there’s be a return to physical media. The world already has enough plastic. But there’s something to be said for giving the customer perpetual access to a product, ensuring that they have a good experience, regardless of what issues the content provider may face. Th FilmStruck story is continuing to unfold. Realistically, Criterion is not likely to be homeless online for too long. And its titles are still available singly via the official site. But we should all take note that when we hold rights for content, we also hold the responsibility for the customer’s experience – and their goodwill.

The Netflix streaming offering tops out at about 6000 titles, and this number is

getting smaller and smaller as Netflix pivots towards its own original content. The Netflix DVD service offers something around 100,000 titles – and these include a lot of films from the Turner Collection as well as the Criterion Collection, and literally thousands of other movies that aren’t easily available on any streaming platform.
