According to Robin Tucker, the idea for Meta took form a little over a year ago when he gauged that key broadcasters at last year’s IBC show, including the BBC, Sky and Turner EMEA, were shopping around for metadata solutions. A metadata mastering and delivery platform was something that the former online editor had already anticipated in his role as a broadcast consultant. “I worked with a range of different clients but the one thing I noticed was that there was a lot of shoehorning metadata into old systems,” he says. “This included a lot of task duplication, for example, with people in different territories carrying out the same work. I saw ways in which these types of efficiencies could be improved.” Meta allows content owners to create, enrich and curate contextual descriptions while also hooking on to third-party AI and machine-learning API services to generate video metadata. “We’re enabling people to clean up their data.
