Powering the paranormal How Anton/Bauer’s EDEN brought remote production Lightly Ghosted to life F orget vengeful spirits and spine-chilling apparitions, Lightly Ghosted takes a refreshingly
offbeat approach to the supernatural. For director Garrett Sammons and his creative partner Ben Arms, it was time to rewrite the rules of the ghost story. Inspired by classics like Beetlejuice and What We Do in the Shadows , Sammons began with a simple idea: “What if a ghost wasn’t scary – just painfully boring and wanting to be left alone?” This flip in premise quickly morphed into an intriguing narrative. “It became a kind of whodunit where you’re not sure who’s haunting who.” In the world of indie filmmaking, creativity battles against time and tight logistics, so power can be a production’s silent hero – or Achilles’ heel. Sammons had some big challenges. With a three- day shoot, 25 crew and a 108-year-old mansion, the production team turned to Anton/Bauer’s new 2.5kWh EDEN mobile power station for reliable remote power. Keeping the spirits alive On set, the EDEN became the go-to remote power for the crew. In remote settings, that efficiency was a game-changer. “Charging with solar while drawing power extends battery life,” claims Sammons. It let the team stay powered all day, quietly and without disrupting production. Summoning the perfect shot For the film’s final shot, the team pulled off a dramatic 60ft Steadicam push- in, lighting the house exterior with soft, moonlight tones. EDEN powered multiple Gemini 2x1 Hard panels for the look they wanted – no stingers, no old wiring, just fast, off-grid lighting. Lightly Ghosted might be a short, but it’s not short on ambition. Alongside the film’s release, the team is partnering with Litepanels for an educational BTS series designed to inspire the next wave of filmmakers.
“As a DOP, you want to set your lights and forget about them,” says Sammons. “That’s exactly what we were able to do with the Geminis powered by EDEN. I didn’t have to think about them again. No stress and no downtime.” In remote locations, EDEN’s IP65 rating and silent, pure sine wave output kept the production running – rain, snow or indoors. With fast recharge times and daisy-chained units, they never had to everything, from lighting to personal devices, with a central charging hub unit stationed on the power cart. EDEN’s USB-C ports and reliable output kept audio gear, small HD monitors and Teradek kit running – giving Sammons confidence it could do the entire shoot. “I can push way more power through that battery than I can through other consumer units I have.
