Apple advice One note of caution. Although this workflow should work perfectly, Apple recommends that you create a new Library set to the desired colour space to avoid accidental colour space crossover issues. If you decide to take this extra step, just drag your HDR tone-mapped to Rec 709 project into the new Rec 709 library before exporting it. Exporting HDR 1 To export to either HDR standards, just go to the Share menu > ‘Master’ output option and switch to the Settings tab. 2 Then choose a video codec that can support HDR. I prefer Apple ProRes 4444 or ProRes 4444 XQ. You can also double check that you’re exporting the correct colour space, even at this stage!

IMAGES The Video Inspector in the Effects browser will help you achieve the correct colour and tone.

HDR Tools for the correct tone 1 Find the ‘HDR Tools’ filter in the Effects browser and drag it onto the new Compound Clip to apply it. 2 Reveal the Video Inspector and click the Mode pop-up menu to choose the type of conversion required. Here, I’ve used the ‘HDR to Rec 709 SDR’ option to tone- map my HDR master into an SDR colour space. 3 Finally, to save an SDR project in an HDR Library, with the new project selected, click the Modify button in the Inspector. 4 This time, click on the Colour Space Mode pop-up list and match the colour space you targeted in the HDR Tool; in this instance Rec 709. You may need to tweak your grade to make it work perfectly within the new colour space, but the HDR Tools filter should get you close and with no loss of quality. I would always advise adding a Broadcast Safe filter for good measure. “Youmay need to tweak your grade tomake it work perfectly within the new colour space, but the HDRTools filter should get you close”
