Outdoor rugs, throws and cushions can help to soften the feel and will bring in some colour. Lighting is also key, especially if you wish to use the area in the evening, so plan ahead and install exterior sockets for lamps.” Kate Reed, founder of Saffron Walden homeware emporium Angela Reed, gives us her concluding thoughts: “Don’t overlook outdoor spaces, treat them as you would the inside of your home. Look out for sustainably made items, and add hanging chairs, lanterns and outdoor cushions for a sense of charm. Don’t forget a bird bath to bring life to your garden – all year round.”
