ADVERTI SEMENT FEATURE | ACS

BY ROYAL APPOINTMENT This year remote camera specialist ACS has been covering some very special events

B illions of people around the world expected the best TV coverage from St George’s Chapel for the wedding of Harry and Meghan, especially in the chapel itself. That wasn’t going to happen without the use of ACS and their 22 SMARTheads™. Each remote head was rigged with Sony HDC-P43 cameras, many of which ACS bought as part of its investment into UHD technology. This transition to Sony HDC-P43 cameras was always planned but the royal wedding provision brought this forward and this was the first time they had been deployed on a major state event. Some of the SMARTheads™ were rigged to pillars of the chapel using mounts that were specially constructed for the BBC. There was a crew of ten ACS specialist technicians and operators to rig and operate the heads with additional operators brought in by the BBC. ACS works regularly for BBC Events; in fact it was the remote head provider for the royal wedding in 2011, and most televised events at Westminster. That includes working on the BAFTA award-winning

coverage of the commemoration services for the Battle of Passchendaele. ALL ENGLAND CLUB The Wimbledon Championships followed quickly on the tail of the royal wedding this summer. ACS was the specialist camera provider for Wimbledon Broadcast Services which was host broadcaster for the first time this year. 36 specialist cameras were provided including SMARTheads™, minicams and railcam systems. Coverage on Centre Court was all shot in UHD HDR this year and ACS supplied SMARTheads™ on the umpire chairs and baseline track. Another first was the stabilised mount used for the iconic aerial shots of the Championships. ACS used their brand new stabilised mount, the Cineflex Pro+, after becoming the first company to receive this new gimbal. Antonia Wood from ACS commented, “We recognise the need to invest in new camera technologies and ways in which these can be integrated with our specialist camera systems. Last year, we invested in
