Locally I might just have video editing. It’s again about having a discussion of what your central infrastructure is and what your storage is against what you want your pipeline to offer you.” MANAGING CLOUD SERVICES Escape actually has its own Cloud API product which allows them to simply spin up workstations, render and storage in the cloud versus on-premises. “If you wanted us to we could spin up a complete infrastructure in the cloud which could be workstations, render and generic VFX workflows. It would give you video editing but wouldn’t give you playback of 4k, 8k for finishing. We can take you from ‘born in the
cloud’ all the way to a hybrid model where people still want to work with stuff on the premises but with the advantage of what the cloud can give you. “Escape is increasingly advising single freelancers on their storage needs too. Questions like ‘How can I get a render to go faster for me from my laptop?’. If that same freelancer has access to a cloud-based workstation with unlimited render ability, he or she becomes much more powerful. Escape is servicing both ends of themarket.”
Igloo you have a similar device but one that could run Linux and Windows with a lot of disks in it. “Interestingly as companies grow you have to understand that server and storage probably has to split because you’ve got that many users and that much data that something has to give.” Scaling up further you then start seeing PixStor One devices which are an entry level enterprise solution. Even further up is PixStor and Qumulo which is your full-blown enterprise class storage that will allow you to run a hybrid infrastructure pulling Amazon, Google or Azure in to your local storage pool. Escape is definitely seeing a move towards the hybrid-centric workflows as the problem you’ve got is the certain limitations of the cloud. “If I want to colour correct a 6k sequence for instance I’m not going to be doing that out of any of those cloud
