STREAMING HOOPS

The National Basketball League (NBL) of Oceania recently accomplished a streaming marathon, after succeeding in livestreaming every state basketball game of the season. An achievement that vastly boosted the popularity of NBL1, Australia’s semi-elite league, the feat was made more impressive by going ahead during a pandemic. The NBL1 consists of South, North, Central and West Conferences, with both men’s and women’s competitions. Across the 2021 NBL1 season, there were over 733,000 game views, with more than 16.2 million total minutes watched. That’s before mentioning the social media element

– the NBL1 Instagram page boasted over 3.36 million video views during the season, all using LiveU Solo encoding equipment. “We had a dream to deliver NBL1 games from the states around Australia – and LiveU’s 4G-bonded IP technology made it possible, enabling us to stream reliably from every venue, at any time,” said NBL1 general manager Dean Anglin. “The set-up has been unbelievably simple, requiring minimal training for our ground staff.” LiveU Solo is a livestreaming solution made up of wireless video encoders. Placed in arenas across Australia, it enabled fans to watch over 900 NBL1 games live. This included finals and highlights, as well as being able to follow their favourite teams. The cloud-based production was also

powered by Australian broadcast services company 5stream and online production platform Cloudmix – with LiveU’s local partner, Pacific Live Media, providing the Solo solution and local technical support.
