EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

“Skills such as leadership, resilience and the reality of coping with failure, as well as success, are all part of the experience” our area are in no doubt that it’s worth every ounce of effort. Encompassing clubs, activities, sports – everything, in fact, that happens outside of the classroom – the extracurricular (or co-curricular) programme can be where children effectively find themselves and develop their passions. Skills such as leadership, resilience and the reality of coping with failure, as well as success, are all part of the experience. And equally as valuable is everything that goes into being part of something bigger than yourself. Trying new things also gives pupils vital life lessons. In a society that values tangible achievements, it can help them to develop new skills. No wonder schools describe extracurricular activities as one of the key pillars of the educational experience, alongside the academics and pastoral care. In numbers alone, schools’ extracurricular offerings are dazzling. Many schools offer well over 50 clubs and activities each term. In any week (sometimes even during the holidays, not just in term time), there might be rehearsals for concerts and productions, expeditions for students working towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards or
