This distinctively sets us apart from other vendors, who are often restricted by the necessity to transcode media to a known and precompressed format, limiting the output and accuracy provided to users.” Right now, Nara is an on-premises solution. But a cloud version is already working and will be rolled out soon, along with a host of additional features being integrated based on customer feedback. So far, reports Lempp, users have been loving it. “The feedback has been excellent. People are instantly impressed by how Nara’s sophisticated index and familiar user interface allow them to find media quickly,” he enthuses. “Once found, they can view any file format securely in the correct colour space – instantly from within a web browser.”

B est known for its grading system Baselight, FilmLight has recently debuted its newest innovation: Nara. Geared towards giving media professionals immediate access to any media – regardless of size, resolution, codec or format – this software is all about speeding up and simplifying collaborative tasks like progress reviews, approvals and compliance processes. Its creators were motivated to tackle what Sam Lempp, head of business development on Nara, describes as a core problem in M&E – balancing the

need for access to secure, complex media at a moment’s notice, while maintaining security and accuracy. The solution is aimed at creatives – from cinematographers, colourists and VFX artists to clients and marketing managers (or anyone else with massive volumes of media files, in fact) – creating a frictionless workflow that frees them up ‘so they can focus on what they do best‘, according to Lempp. “At the heart of Nara is its ability to natively decode and play back more than 160 types of media codecs and
