FEED Autumn 2023 Web

hen it comes to deciding which sports graphic display systems are the savviest for live sports in 2023, sustainability is a major piece of that production puzzle. With producers looking to leverage

the continual developments in virtual studios and cloud-based operations, finding a slick, sustainable solution can be tough in an already saturated field. Technology that was previously considered out of reach for mid- and lower-budget producers is becoming ever more accessible. With powerful web-based software-driven systems, networks now have the opportunity to change the dynamics surrounding both the number and quality of live broadcast shows produced overall. If a production can live in the cloud, it reduces physical footprints and improves implementation of the remote workflow. AI-powered analytics are becoming another game changer, enabling producers to tell more engaging stories for fans. The ability to control, manage and output real- time data in visually appealing ways also opens opportunities in OTT and digital media. This is where interactivity with the fanbase can be a powerful driver for rights holders and production companies. The emergence of HTML5 as a broadcast graphics platform is significant here, granting designers access to browser-based and cloud-native tools to deliver engaging content. Chyron CEO Ariel Garcia says: “With a basic computer or tablet and a standard internet connection, anyone can produce a broadcast-quality show on demand – just paying by production hour.” From anywhere with an internet connection, via a web browser, users can access the Chyron Live platform to cut and mix live sources, adjust audio levels across all feeds, play out Prime-quality graphics packages, create multimedia playlists and produce live replays with telestration. “With Chyron Live, we’re making the tools of a top broadcaster affordable and accessible to all levels,” says Chyron senior vice president of strategy, marketing and product Mathieu Yerle. “From a user standpoint, we’ve taken these pro production tools – production switcher, CG, clip server, replay, telestration – and built them into a full web interface that will be easy to use for broadcast veterans and live production newcomers alike.” PHOTOREALISTIC VOYAGER In November 2022, Ross Video announced the release of Voyager Trackless Studio, an all-in-one virtual graphics tool that uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine to provide photorealistic environments. With a simple interface, the entire production can be driven with limited technical expertise, making professional graphics accessible and affordable. Voyager Trackless Studio allows full flexibility for those with limited studio space to change set designs quickly and easily with minimal financial investment. For example, Voyager Trackless Studio is designed for use with a small green screen either in studio or on location and covers a wide range of workflow types.
