The first Sports line lens specifically for mirrorless systems, this is an impressive beast that will appeal to action and nature photographers – and it’s fully compatible with Sigma’s 1.4x and 2x teleconverters. A 4EV optical image stabiliser (OS) assists sharp shooting at slower shutter speeds. Manfrotto’s 190XPro Aluminium 4-Section shows the brand working at its very best. The pod weighs 2.05kg and reaches a respectable 160cm when fully extended. At the other extreme, it keeps a camera just 8cm off the ground. This tripod’s extra-special talent: its 90° horizontal column system, which makes shooting flatlays and macro a cinch.

Benro’s engineers went back to the drawing board to develop the Rhino collection, with the emphasis on thoughtful design to give great user experience. The Benro Rhino FRHN34C + VX30 is a remarkable tripod and ball head combination that weighs in at 2.06kg, but can support a 20kg max payload. For travel, its carbon-fibre legs – which are made from a new braided material – reverse fold and measure just under 50cm when collapsed. But once deployed it reaches a maximum height of just under 175cm. One leg can be attached and combined with the centre column to make a full-size monopod.

If you love getting it right in-camera, you’ll love Double Grad filters from Kase. For the second year running, these have been voted as your favourite filter or filter system. The concept is simple, and it works well, saving you money and weight. Each 150x100mm ND filter is toned differently at each end – simply fit the filter according to which effect suits the picture best. It’s a great idea, works very well and performance is first-rate. Each product is made from Kase’s Toughened Pro HD glass with metallic nano coatings that are both scratch resistant and water repellent.

Extra flexibility is provided with its MACC feature: the Multi-Angle Central Column allows 360° movement in any direction to give a stable camera platform even in awkward situations.

Magnetic filters are one of those inventions that make you ponder,

impressed not only with the image quality it produces, but also how portable it was. It represents a significant investment, of course, but if you’re going to put it to regular and sustained use, it will deliver time and time again.” Roger Payne – Editor

‘why didn’t they think of this sooner?’. Brilliantly simple and simply brilliant, the Firecrest was designed from the ground up based on customer feedback on the MKII holder. It’s great to see a company listen to its audience.” Roger Payne – Editor
