These remote tests involved a VPN connection, the use of the ubiquitous TeamViewer and Microsoft Teams software, plus a Lawo V_remote 4 as the ‘eyes and ears’ for the specialists – with this solution, Lawo was able to see its own gear in action. Other examples include commissioning and configuration sessions at WDR in Cologne, which is the German public broadcaster in charge of the now- rescheduled Euros; and virtualising MCRs and on-air studios in the US, Colombia, Ghana and many countries in Europe – all from the homes of the Lawo team members who managed to put their socially distanced engineers of the various broadcasters in firm (and safe) control of their operations. And last, but definitely not least, Australian Channel 9’s major new greenfield project was configured remotely from six different countries with very different time zones: Norway, Jordan, Germany, Switzerland, the USA and Canada. The Lawo team that worked on this project not only prides itself on using its SMART telemetry solution for real-time updates, but especially on the 50 tonnes of CO2 that were saved from being released into Earth’s atmosphere as a result of working remotely.

So, while Lawo’s anniversary festivities may have been put on hold in the face of adversity, 2020 has been special for the company. “Our 50th anniversary celebrations in different parts of the world can wait until physical contact is deemed safe again,” says Lawo’s CCO, Jamie Dunn. “They will likely be even more exuberant once the Lawo team have had time to reflect on what they have managed to accomplish in – as the saying goes – these interesting times. For now, most of them are busy assisting Lawo’s customers with viable solutions based on existing Lawo THE DIFFERENCE FROMA PHYSICAL FACTORY ACCEPTANCE WASALMOST INSIGNIFICANT
