Life As You See It
Graeme Youngson Strolling through London’s Chinatown, I noticed these two chefs preparing some food in the window. The interior of their restaurant appeared quite low-lit and added a sense of intrigue and mystery to the scene. Using an incredibly shallow depth-of- field, I focused on the window’s condensation, which I felt added to the feeling of impenetrability in terms of what specific task they were performing. I also thought that the out-of-focus lighting within their restaurant gave the image an aesthetic appeal. I liked the sense of contrast between being physically near to the scene but at the same time far removed from the activities taking place in front of my eyes.
