Urban fashion This month’s photo theme is street style. “Essentially, it’s all about how people put their clothes together,” says photographer Mark Box, who took the images. “These people stand out because of the way they dress: creating a cohesive, stylish look that expresses who they are.” At its most elevated, street style is a fashion aesthetic that showcases how everyday people interpret fashion trends in real-life urban environments. It can be about self-expression, innovative layering of colour and accessories, cultural influences or all three. “In some cases, I’ve liked the subject’s choice of colours or the cool, retro vibe they’ve created,” says Mark. “There are people leaning into their heritage and those dressing up to express their personalities. It can take courage to wear unusual, standout items, but it’s nice to take that positive energy and reflect it back at people. Marie (in the beret) was lovely. We got into a deep conversation about the trials of life, and she pointed out how much hard work and enthusiasm I was putting into my photography. At the end of our chat, she asked: ‘Do you want a hug?’ And yes, I did! It was such an open, friendly interaction.
