THE WORLD IS WATCHING

The inaugural Esports World Cup – the first and largest event of its kind – officially wrapped on 25 August. Held at Boulevard City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the competition welcomed more than 1500 gamers from over 60 countries. The line-up consisted of the biggest gaming titles, including Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Fortnite, League of Legends, Overwatch 2 and Street Fighter 6 , with the championship awarding over $60 million in prize money. Hosted by the Esports World Cup Foundation, the eight-week event enjoyed a grand opening ceremony on 3

July, where the official trophy was revealed. Following that, Boulevard City transformed into a gamers’ paradise, with activations, community tournaments, concerts and other celebrations on offer. “The Esports World Cup is a major moment in esports history,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation. “It’s a historic culmination of two languages – gaming and sports – to unite the global community across games, leapfrog the esports industry and drive growth across the entire ecosystem. I’m proud we’ve created new possibilities for our sport.”
