Nicole Tilby has travelled the world, yet still returned to the city she lived in and loved as a student I first moved to Cambridge in 2019 to study, before spending some time in South Korea. I’ve now moved back to the city and have been here for five months. Even though I initially returned for work, it didn’t take me long to fall in love with the city all over again. The place that means the most to me is King’s Parade, because it holds so many special memories. It’s where I graduated surrounded by my family, ate ice cream with my friends and cycled each day on my way to lectures. It’s also the postcard image of Cambridge! When people ask me for local recommendations, I always point them to Michaelhouse Cafe. I love its unique aesthetic, set inside an old church. This is a great spot to catch up with friends over delicious pastries and drinks. It’s also in a convenient location in central Cambridge, making it the perfect starting point for a stroll through the city.
I love Cambridge because there’s always something happening and lots to do. I really enjoyed going to the Cambridge Beer Festival recently and can’t wait to experience the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival. There are also great communities to get involved with, including Cambridge Girls Circle, which made the move to the city so much easier.
One thing I’ve never done here is visit all of the cafes located along Mill Road. So, I’m setting myself the challenge of going to every single one, starting with Catte Latte – Cambridge’s first cat cafe, which is opening soon – and followed by Relevant Records, which has a hidden vinyl shop in the basement. I can’t wait to discover some new favourites and enjoy plenty of good coffee along the way.
