LOVE LOCAL

Cambridge has truly cast its spell over Katherine Davidson (@quietlycambridge), and now she loves sharing its wonders with others

I’ve lived in Cambridge for nine years! Gosh that’s gone quickly. I grew up in West Yorkshire and originally moved down to Cambridge in 2016 for a one-year master’s course. But a PhD, pandemic, wedding and house purchase later and it looks like I’m here to stay! I love it here because of the Fens! Having grown up rurally, I feel most at home in Cambridgeshire’s countryside. We were living in a flat with no outside space at first, but as soon as we could, my now husband and I started exploring new places to walk outside of the city. Wicken Fen is extraordinarily pretty, and there are great walking routes in Lode and Horningsea.

Sussex College, where I got married. I was a student there and had been chapel warden and choir librarian, which made the connection feel extra special. We had pouring rain in July, but the day was still so magical! And don’t they say wet knots are the hardest to untie? The best exhibition I’ve ever seen here was Colour at the Fitzwilliam Museum: all about illuminated manuscripts and their production, as well as the cutting-edge science used to study them. That said, each temporary exhibition at the Fitz seems to be even better than the last. The current one, Made in Ancient Egypt , looks amazing! I do try to have my ear to the ground, so I love making recommendations to friends or my Instagram followers. If you’re new

to the city, getting up to the top of Great St Mary’s ensures an amazing view. For a day trip, it has to be Anglesey Abbey, although Denny Abbey is a hidden gem too! Food- wise, we recently tried out Margaret’s and that was excellent. One thing I’ve never visited here, but plan to, is the Museum of Cambridge. I must have walked past a thousand times. I recently discovered it’s home to one of the boots of the Histon Giant. As a new Histon resident, I have to go and find out more!

The place that means the most to me is the beautiful chapel in Sidney
