ADVERT I SEMENT FEATURE
With a busy summer of eating out ahead, many restaurants are struggling to get their teams to full capacity. This month, KUCO talks recruitment THE CAMBRIDGE CONNECTION
A PEOPLE PITCH
Long-standing client Cambscuisine is all about the people, and bringing staff in as part of a large family team. It has long offered apprenticeship schemes for new chefs, and continues to reward those who work hard to help the company thrive. This includes team incentives when feedback scores are consistently high. The restaurant group has introduced a new, innovative incentive scheme: current employees can recommend a friend, and if that friend is successful and stays in the role for over three months, both the new employee and referrer receive £100 of vouchers for its venues. This month sees us working with Market House, a one-of-a-kind dining and meeting space in the heart of the city. Its take on recruitment is refreshing – with reasonable hours, interesting training and important holiday period closure. While that may not work for all, this is a new take on retaining great staff; it’s an age-old concept,
Recruitment is a hot topic in the hospitality industry right now. Every client we meet wants to pick our brains on chefs looking for work, or recommendations for their next GM. In a seismic shift, the last few years have seen the power now residing with the employee. Roles are aplenty and work is easy to come by, so staff are looking for benefits beyond the pay cheque. Social media plays an important role in the recruitment drive. We are working with clients to stand out from the crowd, both in what they are offering and how we shout about it. Most recently, our head of creative and in-house videographer has been producing a recruitment video for the University Arms and Parker’s Tavern, to reach a wide audience across the sector. IN THE MARKET Restaurants are thriving right now, as the world opens back up and grabbing a bite to eat with a group of friends becomes the norm again. But could you be doing more to attract skilled employees?
but the work-life balance see-saw is more important than ever. Our own approach to recruitment has included successful social media outreach, using Reels to appeal to highly qualified creatives. As a business, we know the culture at KUCO is pivotal when it comes to allowing people to flourish and grow in their roles. The three Cs – communication, culture and commission – are essential for recruiting and retaining the best people, in our experience. If you’ve got your culture and commission structures in place, then let us help with the communication. Drop us a line on hello@kuco.agency
