Charity seeks out Cambridgeshire base to help hens find new homes A national animal welfare charity is searching for a new Cambridgeshire rehoming base that could help hundreds of ex-commercial hens begin a second life as much-loved pets. The British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT), founded by Jane Howorth MBE, rehomes laying hens at the end of their commercial cycle, so they can enjoy retirement in gardens and smallholdings rather than being sent for slaughter. However, the charity currently has no dedicated rehoming site in Cambridgeshire and is appealing for a volunteer with suitable land to help establish one. Ideally, the location would have good road access, ample parking and access to water and electricity. A barn or outbuilding is needed to house the hens safely before they go to their new homes. Anyone interested in becoming a BHWT rehoming coordinator or offering a suitable site can email louise.seddon@bhwt.org.uk or call 01884 860084
