But unlike many industry awards, there’s one crucial difference: you decide the winners. There is no closed judging panel, no secret meetings and no industry insiders influencing the results. These awards are decided by the people who actually
use the equipment every day – from independent filmmakers and content creators to production companies, freelancers and broadcast professionals. That real-world approach has made the Gear of the Year Awards one of the industry’s most respected honours, celebrating products that deliver where it matters most: on real productions. As the awards celebrate their tenth anniversary, they are evolving to reflect how filmmaking has changed. While established categories covering cameras, lenses, lighting, audio, support, storage, software and accessories all return, several new awards recognise the rapid growth of content creation, podcasting and live production. This year sees the introduction of a specialist content creator camera category, celebrating everything from action cameras to drones, alongside a new video podcast hardware class for the equipment transforming the podcasting boom. We have also expanded our coverage of production workflow with a dedicated editing and workflow hardware category, recognising colour calibration tools,
