Sky Studios Elstree T he highest performer in albert’s Studio Sustainability Standard class of 2024 (scoring a whopping 95% and an ‘outstanding’ mark), Sky Studios Elstree places environmentalism at the centre of its operations. The studio holds some of the most ambitious climate objectives out there, barring single-use plastics, harvesting rainwater and sourcing regional produce – all in the name of reducing its carbon footprint. A leading member of its local community, Elstree also participates in initiatives like Sky’s Content Academy and Sustainability Heroes – the latter being a student competition meant to inspire positive change. When Elstree opened in 2022, Sky pledged to make it the most sustainable studio in the world. It’s a lofty goal which, thanks to albert, it has officially achieved. Garden Studios W ith environmentalism in its name, Garden Studios commits itself to climate action. The central London studio, which offers both traditional sound stages and LED volumes for virtual production, participated in both rounds of albert’s Studio Sustainability Standard and has achieved B Corp certification in less than five years of operation. In an effort to reduce waste, Garden Studios launched Re-Set, an upcycling programme which redistributes props and production materials to its London community. Similarly, the studio relies on regional suppliers and commissions
local creatives, not only to boost the surrounding economy but also reduce travel-related carbon emissions. Garden Studios’ additional objectives include achieving 100% renewable energy, replacing all lighting with LEDs, conducting regular carbon footprint calculations, using less water, enforcing policies that ban idling and single-use plastics, and training new employees on embodying these sustainable practices. When it comes to looking after the planet, Garden Studios knows there’s a long way to go, which is why it continuously revisits and revises its environmental goals.
