A stera launched its new since. “Over 1000 units are already in the market and our production line is fully booked for the first quarter of the year,” begins Ben Díaz, Astera head of product management. “Those who saw QuikSpot at LDI Las Vegas were impressed, and it played a major role in our LDI award for best product display, where it was undoubtedly the show’s hotspot.” While there are many options on the market for lighting equipment, the all- weather QuikSpot lighting system is focused on optimising workflows for technicians who want to avoid compact spotlight QuikSpot in December 2024, and it has been in high demand from rental companies worldwide compromising on colour fidelity, beam quality and flexibility while on the move. “The battery-driven and zoomable QuikSpot luminaire is the first LED fixture to truly integrate the needs of both events and film and television into a smart, quick-to-set-up and easy-to-use premium ecosystem,” adds Díaz. QuikSpot is fully integrated into the Astera ecosystem thanks to its inbuilt Titan LED Engine and native wireless protocols such as CRMX and Bluetooth bridge, as well as wired daisy-chain options for five-pin DMX and True1 power. It also features the ChargingPlate and PrepBox. “Thanks to its removable yoke and integrated 3/8in thread in the housing, the QuikSpot is also highly
“While there are many options, the all-weather QuikSpot lighting system is focused on optimising workflows for technicians” convenient as an overhead spotlight for low ceilings, such as in museums. It can handle all these tasks because it’s super lightweight, compact and 100% wireless.” Zooming in QuikSpot features a very efficient fresnel front lens, ensuring a zoomable 13-60º beam angle and delivering a clean, sharp throw with powerful, aberration- free RGBMA colour performance. A number of factors ensure QuikSpot stands out in a competitive market, and additionally the spotlight is the brightest Astera product under 60W. “It’s also the easiest and fastest fixture to set up and configure in our portfolio,” says Díaz. “Applying a DMX profile and incremental starting addresses to eight fixtures takes just 30 seconds in total, and doesn’t require power during the process. This represents a complete revolution in terms of time and effort savings.” Rigging options were a key focus during development. “With QuikSpot, we’re introducing the TrackPin Compact, which integrates seamlessly with the yoke’s inbuilt Airline track. This accessory reduces QuikSpot’s height and works
particularly well with third-party SuperClamps. The 3/8in thread on the back of QuikSpot also offers a pin-ready mounting option that minimises visual impact, ideal for installations that don’t require a yoke, such as those with gobo heads or low-profile clamps.” On a budget With QuikSpot, Astera is offering a 100% wireless, compact, all-weather fixture that can be configured in batches by a freelancer, directly from the truck. “In practice, this means you only need a few QuikSpot units in your car’s trunk to design a small show in about 30 minutes, which includes set-up, focusing and programming through the AsteraApp. For larger events, the workflow scales effortlessly. QuikSpot is designed for high-level professionals but is particularly beneficial for productions with tight budgets and limited resources.” As we head into 2025, Díaz foresees significant advancements in software and protocol integration, surpassing core hardware developments. “Colour quality is becoming increasingly important; users are more aware of their specific colour-mixing needs and also demand high output. This calls for systems that excel in colour reproduction, deliver deep saturates and are efficient enough to run on batteries while providing sufficient punch for their size. “Balancing these factors is crucial, and I anticipate extensive discussions in this area. As users become more informed, the industry will face challenges to innovate beyond simply adding diodes or larger batteries, driving meaningful progress,” Díaz concludes.
