GEAR BUYERS’ GUIDE

7. STABILISATION: FEIYUTECH A2000 3-AXIS GIMBAL £349/$449 feiyu-tech.com FeiyuTech’s A2000 three-axis gimbal may not have the touchscreen of the firm’s latest models, but it is an affordable and lightweight design that’s ideal for mirrorless cameras. You can change to single- or dual-handle mode to keep it even steadier, and it has a payload of up to 2kg/4.4lb. So it’s compatible with the Panasonic GH5, Sony A7 series and other mirrorless cameras. It features motors that can automatically adapt to work with different weight, so you don’t need to be constantly adjusting settings. It’s foldable and the handle is wrapped by silica gel for comfort. It can be used in standing, inverted, frontal, reversed and high or low positions.

8. MONITORING: SMALLHD FOCUS £478/$449 smallhd.com The SmallHD Focus OLED is a five-inch touchscreen with tilt arm that connects via a HDMI cable and therefore works with a huge range of cameras. The bright and clear 1280x720 display performs really well under all sorts of light and its price is right, too. It might not be the large new seven-inch model or be able to record video footage and audio, but that simplicity makes it smaller and lighter, and much less complex. It’s a plug-and-play bit of kit that makes mirrorless cameras a far more professional tool for shooting video. And it has lots of professional tools to help you nail exposure and focus far better than any camera screen.

9. LIGHTING: ROTOLIGHT ANOVA PRO 2 £1549/$1680 rotolight.com The Rotolight Anova Pro 2 is a professional light that works well for stills and movies, so is ideal for serious mirrorless camera users. It combines portability with power, control and special effects features. It delivers 70%more power than its predecessor, but runs off batteries, making it a great on-location option, and hybrid shooters will love its HSS flash mode for stills. There’s also an updated range of CineSFX modes, letting you add atmospheric effects like fire, lightning and TV. A great product that keeps getting better.

10. DATA: LACIE RUGGED RAID PRO 4TB £284/$299 lacie.com

Most filmmakers around the globe will be familiar with the orange- coloured, rugged hard drives that so many professionals own and use. This newest version is LaCie’s Rugged RAID Pro, which has a huge 4TB capacity and a hardcore build to keep your data safe. Its trump card though, is the

double benefit of the RAID backup technology plus an embedded UHS-II SD card reader, meaning you can backup footage on location without needing a separate card reader and laptop.

So all your footage is immediately held in two locations within the drive, for immediate redundancy in case of an epic drive failure.

11. STABILISATION: KENRO DOUBLE DISTANCE CAMERA SLIDER £206/$268 kenro.co.uk

The innovative Kenro Double Distance Camera Slider offers 38cm/15in of tracking movement on a flat surface and can be doubled in length if mounted on a tripod, making it a must-have for portability and performance. The slider extends seamlessly in either direction and the smooth belt-driven movement ensures clean and smooth footage, with no judders or bumps. Constructed of anodised aluminium, it is strong and light and can handle a load capacity of up to 6kg/13.2lb, though it weighs only 1.64kg/3.61lb. The slider comes in a padded carry case.
