Whether modern or historic, inside or out, the best images reveal character while balancing technical precision with artistic flair. Photo editing Editing should enhance an image, not dominate it. Whether your style is subtle or dramatic, judges want to see creativity backed by restraint. Strong entries use post-processing to improve mood, colour and storytelling while producing a polished final image that still feels believable. Portrait The best portraits reveal personality. Judges will be looking for expression, strong eye contact, thoughtful lighting and framing that keeps your attention on the subject. Whether candid or carefully posed, successful portraits create a connection between the viewer and the subject. Macro Macro photography reveals a world most never notice. Sharp focus, careful use of light and strong composition are key, but originality is just as important. Under-18 Photography is all about seeing the world differently. It’s not about owning expensive equipment. From weddings and festivals to sport and celebrations, we will be looking for strong storytelling, perfect timing and images that make viewers feel like they were there. Authenticity matters far more than staged moments.
Black & white Without colour, every element has to work harder. Strong black & white images rely on light, shadow, texture and contrast to create impact. Whether it’s a portrait, street scene or landscape, monochrome is best used with purpose to enhance mood, simplify the image and tell a stronger story.
