EDGEWARE edgeware.tv

ELASTICATED BROADCAST Sweden-based Edgeware has announced the deployment of its new cloud-based elastic CDN solution in a customer ’s large- scale commercial trial, which will deliver ABR content to thousands of OTT service subscribers. The solution aims to enable CDN owners, such as telecom or cable

TV operators, to quickly spin up and down streaming resources when needed. This elasticity – known as cache autoscaling – possesses economic advantages by automatically propagating content to new cache instances in the cloud and allowing dynamic resource allocation. The solution is cloud agnostic and enables deployment in any public, private or hybrid cloud execution environment. Using a network functions virtualisation (NFV) approach, the solution allows users to quickly expand into new territories, avoiding overspend and delivering the best streaming quality. The new cloud-based elastic CDN technology is composed of a software- defined cache control and management function, and a TV delivery mechanism.

CDN COLLABORATIONS Conviva has announced a partnership with Akamai, the intelligent edge platform for securing and delivering digital experiences. Conviva also announced the availability of a solution in collaboration with Akamai to automatically collect CDN Edge Server IP addresses across streaming applications on all devices. “Partnering with Conviva gives us real-time intelligence about the viewer experience, and secure access to shared publisher customer data that helps us optimise video delivery,” said Paul Joseph from Akamai. Akamai is one of the first in the CDN industry to integrate quality of experience data from end users to create a complete picture of content delivery – from server to network to video players – on consumer devices. The solution that Conviva developed using Akamai input expands the real-time intelligence available to Akamai with additional transparency at an individual server level. Conviva and Akamai plan to enhance this information with automated AI alerting armed with CDN Edge Server IP addresses in order to mitigate failures.
