Japanese lens brand Sigma continues its move upmarket and into the world of high-end cinema lenses, with its line of full-frame primes. These are available in a High Speed Prime set for a “standard” look, or ten-lens Classic Art Primes for a soft, vintage feel. On most of the system, lens design is shared with Sigma’s range of Art prime lenses – originally meant for DSLR use and heralded for its optical excellence. The whole cine range is housed in a traditional, all-manual metal body with clickless aperture ring. The lenses, from 20mm through to 135mm, open as wide as T1.5 – while the 14mm is T2. They come in PL, Sony E or Canon EF mounts, and markings can be specified in feet or metres. A nine-bladed iris produces pleasing bokeh, and both ghosting and flaring are minimised. Colour reproduction is standardised for easy colour correction. Each lens offers consistent gear positioning and 180° of focus barrel rotation. The FF High Speed Primes
