This way, ZEISS CP.3 lenses can be switched for different camera systems, to give years or decades of service. ‘Invest in glass’ is a well-knownmaxim. ZEISS continues to reward for a long time, helping creatives produce stunning work in the face of ever higher-resolution cameras. The standard range is now joined by the CP.3 XD (eXtended Data) series, which still offers the same optical quality. XD is based on the Cooke/i technology that provides key lens data such as focal length, focusing distance, depth of field data andmore. On top of that, XD offers lens distortion and shading characteristics. This saves time andmoney in VFX, virtual production and green screen productions. The data is outputted via an external Lemo-compatible plug, or an internal interface with the camera via PLmount. CP.3s are available in 15, 18 and 21mm lenses with a T2.9maximum aperture, while the 25, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100 and 135mm are T2.1. Every lens has a 95mm front diameter, for consistency of fitment with accessories. And they are each the same size, except the 100 and 135mm telephoto lenses ‑ which are marginally bigger. All are designed for professional use, tested thoroughly to fend off the worst of the elements. Whether shooting in the heat of a desert or the frozen steppes, the weather-sealed CP.3 line is ensured to work flawlessly from-20°C to +55°C, even though ZEISS tests them from-40°C to +70°C. In labs, the lenses are sprayed with fine dust particles for eight hours, to make sure all control rings remain perfectly smooth and consistent. To factor for vibration, a mechanical shaker generates forces of up to 1.6G across a wide range of frequencies, tomake sure nothing works its way loose. By using a ZEISS CP.3 lens, you are armed against the worst conditions. That allows you to focus on what’s
important – getting the shots, rather than worrying about equipment. Amajor benefit of a ZEISS Compact Prime lens is tactile, controlled handling of manual focus and iris rings. There is a very large 300° focus rotation angle, consistent across all lenses in the range, for precise and sensitive control. And, as the action is so fluid, small follow focus motors can be used when required. The lenses have 0.8M pitch gears and stepless iris rings to provide easy control. Of course, all models are constructed to eliminate focus breathing. While this is true for the whole CP.3 series, it’s the popular 35mmoptic that has been singled out in this year’s Gear of the Year Awards. On a full-frame camera, this gives a natural and slightly wide- angle look to a scene; while on a Super 35 or APS-C sensor, it is roughly equivalent to the ‘standard’ 50mm viewpoint that’s always been so celebrated. Whether you choose a 35mmZEISS Compact Prime CP.3, or any other from the line-up, you are investing in amodern, specialist system. At every focal length, experience great image quality, tried-and- tested ergonomics and a future-proofed lens – in terms of workflow, HDR and even camera swapping. It’s a winner now, andwill continue to deliver for a long time to come. AERO ENGINEERING The very best technology goes into every CP.3 lens, to ensure it is rugged and reliable
